Personally we believe its totally possible to wallie this thing to the sidewalk but thats shit made for the likes of gunn, willis or weller. anyway this is aaron hungover and trying to skate in between vomiting up his tea and sitting with his head between his knees. he felt so shitty we felt bad for him, but it didnt stop us from heckling and calling for tricks. aaron is a super soldier and always throws something down to make sure he gets his and to stoke out the fam, no matter what it costs him. he's got the love.

This month has been fucked up. There was an assault on skateblock, a broken ankle from pushing on flat and some branding with a garden rake. Seriously, theres not much i can even add to that. here's some photo's.

We'll get started with my neighbor Matt's busted head, dealt out by a tweaker bum on the block. In his words, "you know that scene in Fight Club where they pick a fight and lose?.. that's kinda what I did."

A lot of people have heard this story, but heres the footage. Finally, huh?
One day a few summers ago we decided to create the worlds first eco-friendly tweeker deterrent. Boredom makes for strange plans. This is a really rough, quick edit of what went down. It's up here at all because max has been asking about it for at least a year. I know there's a spelling typo in the last text, I hate it passionately but not enough to redo it.
Here it go..

The actual field test of the bee bomb has been excluded, mostly due to it being fairly incriminating, and to some degree because it's shitty, shaky camera footage. Just know that the Bee Bomb is very effective.
Now hypothetically, say you had a Bee Bomb and were to actually use it for it's intended purpose, this is allegedly what might happen..
When the grenade's "pin" is pulled ("pulling the pin" meaning a few quick shakes of the jar to rile up it's occupants) and the bee bomb is lobbed into a nest of tweakers the result is nothing short of spectacular. The meth monkeys, who are generally huddled under ramshackle tent cities and tarp houses to smoke crack, will be completely unsuspecting of what is to come. When a jar suddenly breaks amongst them the initial crackhead response will be minimal and probably somewhat of a let down. Maybe a "HEY!" or some "What the fuck!?'s" shouted from beneath a pile of tarps at best, since glass breaking on Skateblock is a daily thing, and doesn't get much attention. However, within seconds that nonchalant response will be shattered when Bum Camp begins its descent into a riotous, frenzied chaos. When all those hornets are suddenly free from their confinement and super pissed off, they start charging full-on at anything within range. The tweaker reactions will differ from tent to tent, but two specific tactics seem to prove the most common. The braver shitbags will attempt to fight their tiny assailants resulting in a beautifully performed spastic ballet of flailing arms, high kicks and low gutteral screaming. Other bums will attempt to outrun the violent swarm, and while this is the sane persons response, it is still merely an attempt to delay one's doom. You see, even though a scared man on methamphetamines is a serious contender in a foot race against another human, he has no chance against hundreds of insane bee's hellbent on his destruction. It is a fate that nothing short of a lake can avert. The hornet is a crazy species of bug, once it's decided to fuck something up, it will follow its target for blocks in the effort to sting it to death. This trait in the insect makes for a very effective eco-weapon since it doesn't kill anyone, leaves almost no traces, has good range and it creates total panic and absolute havoc for about 15 minutes. Thus completely demoralizing the methed-out, enemy battalions.

Let me break it down for you...
SPOT 1.)
This here is the tranny section of SkateBlock. It's all a hesh build..scraps and junk. This is where the coping bites back and getting tossed is to be expected.

Just a few feet away we have the Tech Center where all ones technical skateboarding via block/ledge and manual tricks can be practiced to precise perfection.

Also located nearby are two seperate wallride spots. The smooth walled one is on a wheelchair access bump and the curb one is pretty self explanatory.

Here we have the good ol planter gap. I've lived here with this bitch staring at me from across the street for 4 years now. I've taken 5 or 6 drunken attempts at it in the dark, and so far...nada. not even close. With only a few token attempts by others and one very serious mountain bike enthusiast who endo'd onto his teeth over it,I havent seen anyone do this thing yet. I'm fucking waiting, people..I know the run up is awkward...and blind..and bumpy...and the landing is ringed with flagstone with a guywire sorta in the middle..but, lets get on this.

Theres tons of other stuff around SkateBlock, too. a pole jam a block away, some bump to gaps that people keep showing up to film stuff on down the street, a lot of spots you saw in the Jivaro video, some jersey barriers, a slappy curb...it just never ends 'round hurr.

Anatomy of a Skate House

The skate house. If you read this thing, you have probably lived in one or hung out in one. The skate house is at once a fascinating and disgusting place. full of character and weird novelty but sketchy and most likely unsanitary at the same time. I happen to live in a skate house. It's my skate house, and i kinda like it this way..mostly. I wish we would keep up on housekeeping a bit better, but with a bunch of guys around who collect seemingly endless pieces of "found art", coping blocks, tools and junk stacked everywhere.. it's a pipe dream. Far too many projects and far too little time to finish even half of the ones we start. heres a primer of a modern skate house dissected for your enjoyment and/or horror.

This is SkateBlock. This is what you'll see as you first approach the compound.

This is how you know you have arrived. All skate house mailboxes look similar to this.

The foyer. a fancy way to say "dumping station for wayward project crap". Most basic necessities for skate house life can be found with 10 feet of the front door. here we have some typical examples of those needs. Nearly every base is covered here with things like a half dozen cans of spray paint in a bucket, ceramic tiles, extension cords, saws, curb paint, car jacks, skateboards, tiny bicycles, impact drivers, mud boots and rain boards.

The front room will usually serve as a meeting place and will be the most often destroyed room in the skate house. It will also have many, many interesting doodads and suprises to explore. Most random objects in a skate house will find their way to window sills, and mantle pieces in the common rooms.

Skate videos are integral to a skate house common room. It will be the predominant and often only usage a television will get.

The living room will always have piles of magazines, too. It is also likely that the magazines will be ordered and tidy, no matter how badly the rest of the room is thrashed.

A proper skate house has nearly every wall covered in some bullshit or another. random objects, shitty records and old skateboards are common themes.

The time sucking corner. Obviously. You will often find the denizens of the skate house clustered around a game of Skate 2, trying to slam as hard as electronically possible.

the kitchen will usually be a biohazard, and the fridge will be empty of everything save condiments and beer. As you can see we are slippin' on the beer situation, but have condiments on lock.

The computer stations in a skate house will be cesspools of burrito wrappers, beer cans,and general garbage. We use these things to look at skate photo's, porn, Epic'ly Later'd, and to set up skate sessionswith other nerds. who cares if it's clean, nah'mean?

The bathroom...ugh, ok..just use your imagination and be assured that it's probably worse than that.

It takes a roughneck to live in a skate house for any lenghth of time and you will be tested now and again, but the endless entertainment value of having your homeboys around all the time to freak out on shit with you while having minimal rules about how to spazz out...is just simply awesome.

The laughable "high line" to the bent metal bed rail that was found in the yard, tacked to the top of the plywood for about 5 feet. Ahh.. can't forget to mention the badass dishwasher deathbox.

the above photo of Dan is great. Scope the fuckin' sweet old wood chipper holding this side of the bowl up. The middle section was supported by a dishwasher and the last support object was a console television..all with horse gates stacked against them and surfaced poorly.

Another example of horsegates and shitty plywood scraps used to optimum effectiveness. this stands as is with 5 screws keeping the peace. Junk skating is not about fear or safety concerns.
This is Carter. He's a fun guy. Some of the funniest road mission moments of my life are directly related to Carter. Bombing through Kentucky in a gold Cadillac listening to blaring reggae...Perfect. This ain't my photo, I dont know where it came from. I just have it.

Deaf Brian cracks me up. He teaches me to say disturbing things in sign language and draws Deaf Skateboards related doodles on all my stuff. It's awesome. This was my lighter fluid at a random barbeque. I have pics of several doodles of his that are rad somewhere, I should look.

Skate Block 3.1

We got us some quarter pipe. $50 bones courtesy of the Dave Network, and we had something to work with. Using the only two templates left from brodahl's ramp that didn't end up in the fireplace, and Dave's new lumber, we built whats become known as "The Humbler". Max has taken to calling it "The Garrics" as well. Its janky, tiny, hard to skate and the coping, which is attached with a garden hose.. sticks way the fuck out. all of this was done on purpose, cause easy gets boring. Building things that are intentionally hard to skate is the way to go. wave of the future. the horizon, man...yeah. ironically it's been getting slayed and everyone is somehow able to learn new tricks almost daily. i mean joe's doin' fucking blunts, man. Without grabbing the nose..Damn. We put some sharp-ish, jaggy ceramic tiles i had in a bucket on it yesterday, so now its way pimp. Add that with the kill-wedge and today's newly scabbed together formica tabletop "bench/box", the ledges on the stoops, and we almost got a park goin' on out front. Brodahl should give us his quarter pipe from washougal..that would be about bitchin'... what ya think, hefe'? Any way here's Photo's from day 2.

At one point during this day, a Portland roller derby chick skated by on rollerskates all geared up for roller combat and sessioned the ramp with us. she was really cool, and random encounters like that are happening daily, now as a result of this shitty thing. Its amazing. there is no other force on earth that will pull all 8 dudes around this block that skate out into the 35 degree day to hang out in the cold. skateboarding can do this and more.

Joe Horn, a 61 year old man killed two burglars. This may be old news, but I'm kinda not into television at all.

It poses some sketchy legality, arguments, and potential criminal issues, that I think should be discussed. Rationally. The hazy legalities of what Joe did, (which Joe here has almost entirely sidestepped due to the alien status of the burglars, and Texas law)is something to think about.

I cant speak of whats right for everyone, but if some creeper rolls up onto my castle, or my neighbors' with the intention of doing ill, I'm slaying the dragon.
I tend to think that Joe did the right thing, but I wasn't there.
At the very least I admire Joe Horn for his balls and pure badass Texas-ness.

The Lockdown Ramp (Vantucky circa '97)

This rare piece of footage comes courtesy of Nate Sherwood's YouTube account. Ya see Nate and I are from the same town and when we were youngsters and skating..say, from 1988 through almost 2000, there were only a handful of us that had been dropping slappies around town for any length of time and even fewer who had been down that whole time. this is way pre-boom skateboarding era or whatever. So we all hung out, shared our spots, weed and girls... and things were really fun. didnt matter how you skated or whatever other faction specific friction we have in skateboarding now, if you were a lifer you were equal. Some of us still feel that way, but we are fading away like a species that has finished its usefulness. whatever, not gonna lament for the good old days or whatever, shits done now.. but fuckin' nate-o came through with some old documentation of the LockDown Ramp. It was a ramp at Nate Ahlberg, Tory Merril, Nick Duzick and Jacob Weiss' house. To be correct it was in the living room. I spent most of my time there crashing on the floor. The other guy that was a non -resident-resident was "Lil' Acorn", Nick's younger brother. I miss those guys. We were constantly shredding the living room because that year was a cold, frozen-ass, bitter winter and they had torn out the only wood burning stove to make room for the instavert wall under the stairs, skateboarding was how one kept warm. That year everyone got iced in and couldn't go anywhere for like a month, so it was named the LockDown Ramp. She was the hotel california of miniramps, once you dropped in you could never leave. It was in downtown Vancouver in a rental house, it had two vert pillars, was maybe 4' tall at coping and the front door opened exactly enough to drag a keg through it before hitting the deck. it was super extra super fun. So cheers to Nate for letting me see our old spot again!

This issue has non other than Al Queda Chris railing a crail-blocked skidder at a TRB Tuesday session at Donald. Chris and Pod came out with the boys to skate and Pod caught this fucking gnarly hippy stomper. He had Chris doin' this trick for quite awhile, as time went on each attempt got less crailed, and more blocked out. They were all sick, slidey and nearly every one was a make. Those fellers are super fun to have at the session, they hype shit up. Good dudes. Uh-Oh..Watch yerself, Texas Rose Boys lurking hard in the background. Could be your beer they be drankin'. It's a fucking ill photo, and for the record my pant leg is not rolled up like a gangster, its some weird color correction thing, I think. This is the session I re-jacked my knee at too. A Blurb from the Portland community policing Minutes for the Se District regarding the park...

Jenna talked about the Burnside Skate Park. There is a strip of property owned by the PDC that has been donated to the skate park. The skate park has started additional construction without PDC approval. Jenna is looking into that. If you notice anything unusual going on there, please contact Jenna. There should be no construction going on there, as they have no permission to expand and no permits have been issued. She has a “Cease and Desist” order in place. Portland Development Commission is still in control of the property.

There have been a lot of police reports this month for building structures, open containers, etc. Officers are writing lots of tickets. There are not a lot we can do beyond writing tickets, since we don’t have the sit/lie ordinance here.

I fully support the Black and White.. that's just how it is. I'm not a brother or what could even be called a "hang around", since I don't hang around with very many people, but I support the Mongols MC's right to ride where they like, and fly their colors anywhere they like. They have more than earned that right due largely to the fight they had to endure to simply exist. Now, that existance is threatened again..not by other clubs or individuals but by a worldwide witchhunt perpetuated by the ATF and law enforcement making judgments and indictments based on a few individual actions and paranoid suspicion. Now they have been stripped in court of the right to wear club colors, sell stickers and shirts as a way to pay for legal defense in this fight or even use the Mongols MC logo at all.

let me clarify a little..MONGOLS MC HAS HAD IT'S COPYRIGHTED IMAGE STRIPPED FROM THE CLUB IN COURT. Mongols everywhere are being persecuted by the feds, not for any great criminal enterprise or factual wrongdoing club-wide but for being simply "undesireable" to some parts of society. They have been railroaded by the feds in a completely unconstitutional action and the feds are hoping that being unable to legally use their logo to make money will result in the club being unable to defend itself legally, falling apart and disbanding. whatever..it's like the Young Ones over here but with actual smart folks. It's kinda rad to have people over and drink beers while wearing full on ski clothes, indoors. that Bear Grylls dude from that survival show would love hanging out over here. In what i hope will be a regular thing i'm gonna share a story now and again about my awesome neighbor, Chappy.

on two seperate occasion's i've looked out my bedroom window (which faces Chappy's kitchen window) and seen him screaming at his food in the kitchen. The first time i could hear someone full on screaming the lyrics to random cypress hill songs and couldn't find where it was coming from. you see, on our block tweaker bums yell all the time and crazy muttering crackheads are the norm, so i didnt think too much about it until i popped my window to have a smoke. it was then that i saw chappy, sitting at his kitchen table with the door open, red faced, overstimulated and raging as he screamed the first verse of "hand on the pump" into his cereal.

pure awesome, distilled and bottled right there.

the other time we heard some uber high volume bushwick bill rhymes blasting from next door so when we ran around to the window to see what was going on now, we witnessed Chappy again freaking out on some gangsta shit and screaming buswick's rhymes at full volume. i leaned out and asked him, "are you screaming at your cereal again?" to which he smiled and held up his trophy..the very thing that got him hyped enough to bellow some getto boyz in the first place, and said, "Ice Cream...YEEEAAAHHH BBOOOOOYYYYYY!!!!" and he went into his house where the sounds of violent rap ispired hollering continued for another hour or so when Max came over and asked "if we should call him an ambulance, since he's clearly gone crazy."

Now,a story about my neighbor's birthday..

LJ made an attempt to scale the second story porch that did not go as planned. from my vantage point he clambered over the gutter, slipped and pretty much took it to his face and neck on the concrete one story below. upon impact he ragdolled over, took his shirt off and asked the girl, screaming for someone to call 911, for a blowjob. she declined. that didnt stop him from showing his pecker to her, though.
Amidst the chaos of an inspired refrigerator drop in session in the kitchen, Sage struck up a spirited conversation with a Luke Skywalker cardboard standup. Mark Hamill and Sage seemed to get along famously.. so much so that Sage and Mark were seen strolling down the street together, arm in arm, making friends along the way. Mark has not returned since. there is suspicion that he's finishing concrete at ed benedict. May the force be with you Luke.

The biggest upside of having a "Sanford and Son" junkyard at your house, is the ability to MacGuyver together all sorts of sketchy yet useful things. For example, lets talk about our barbeque grill. For a long time, we didn't to have one, mostly because we killed the Lil' Rusty Wallace grill. So when we wanted to grill some shit up for the session awhile back we were a bit screwed. In dire need of a grill my attention turned to the enormous pile of crap in the yard at the Shit Palace, and after a few minutes of creative thinking, a solution presented itself. After digging around in the pile, I procured some filing cabinet drawers for the coal chamber, and some random weight bench weights to elevate the grill off the ground. I went inside and took the oven rack from the house, placed the whole contraption on the "Yard Television" and suddenly the Hesh Grill was born. It turns out that file drawers are ported all along the sides for optimum airflow, and it works wonderfully. its almost as cool as making a "Beach Grill" out of a tire, a can of sterno and a street sign.

Soldiers Weapon was a cool little skateboard company in Longview, Washington some years ago. It was owned by two guys who ripped. Both were really nice guys who were just down to skate. No bullshit, just living to skate.
They had some good photo's in the mags and were set to make something happen. It was a fun fringe to sit on. I was on my own mission, so I never got to see what became of theirs. I don't know what happened to those guys, but I think about them once in a while and I always remember them as a good part of my own skateboarding experience.

These are just a few companies that keep it alive, just like those those two Longview soldiers I once knew.

Cold War Skateboards is a company from the Northwest. Randy promptly answered my stupid questions via e-mail, and was cool about it. he went so far as offering to put the graphic I liked, (The "Ban the Bush" ordinance) onto a different deck more my size. I was super stoked. They offer all kinds of GNAR-TOOLS for the burler in us all. They also make some kickass band boards featuring the likes of The Epoxies, The Groovy Ghoulies, and the Immortal Naked Raygun. Good Shit.

Metal Skateboards is a Jersey thing. Conspiracy surrounds this company and it's run by lifers.
The METAL WEBSITE is a conundrum in itself, a page containing Medusa's head and a pentagram. Metal stands mute, shrouded in darkness, obscured by a torn veil of deceit, and hand dipped in King Diamond. Yep.

Terror Skateboards has been on the DL, lately. Terror has some hardass, destroyin' motherfuckers on it's team. Rulers like Sage, Justin Hindry, Jamie Weller, Dober, Fat Chris, Pino, Sperm and Slob. It's been a really long hiatus for Terror but I've been hopeful. I Read in the Paying In Pain 'Zine that Terror was still a go, but i have not heard anything recently, and their website is down. Which is also sad because Terror makes my favorite skateboard of all time. The 8.67" X 32" squaretail "Scumfuck Tradition" deck is the best board i've ever ridden. I got one of the first run decks from a friend and until this year I was buying the same board everytime a new one was needed. I went so far as having friends pick them up in Portland or SD on their way through town on trips. I love that deck and have retired several. I want another one, or six. God dammit why does everything good have to end?

I know this guy, Chris.
He told me this story.
I wish I had gone out that night.

Chris and Jeff went the The Vern one night with some people and as usual everyone got drunk. Late in the evening as everyone was standing outside, this obviously drunk and very mentally retarded chick with her face bleeding, comes up pushing a broken bicycle with wobbly wheels and bent handlebars. (I know, its almost too much to take in all at once. relax and breath.) Somehow they end up in a conversation with the bloody retarded girl, and they find out that she's looking to party, and she wants to REALLY party. I guess they figured that a bloody retarded girl who wants to rage is far too good an opportunity to not exploit in some way. She asks Chris if anyone wants to make out and they proceed to tell the girl that the two guys by a nearby truck are looking to party with her, and she gets all stoked about it, but the two guys by the truck are people we work with and they know nothing of this exchange. Jeff tells her that those two guys wanna get fucked up and make porn flicks with her. She gets super excited and asks what else they are into, so Chris in a moment of utter brilliance tells her, "..those dudes wanna take you home and let you do big lines of coke off their cocks." As soon as she hears this she takes off for the truck on her busted bike. The two poor saps in question are totally oblivious to the drunk, bloody, oversexed retard on a broken bicycle zeroing in on them from across the street. She wobbled her way to the rear of the truck and picked up her bicycle. The two guys never knew she was there until her bike came crashing down from an overhead slam into the truck they were leaning on...and by then it was too late.
She was upon them and she was not going to be denied.

The band is R.A.M.B.O, and they are from Philly. The kiddies at these shows lose their fucking minds! Rambo shows are a total riot, literally. The band wears camo and stages huge riot re-enactments with kids in the pit dressed up as Cops vs. Protestors, Cops vs. Vikings, etc...pretty rad.

I did not submit it. I didn't even know until after the fact. The color original was the only one i saw beforehand, once, the day it went down. Yeah, it got bagged on..that sucks, I admit. However, it got bagged on due to overprocessing, not cus i'm same lame 30 year old kook trying to be something I ain't. I just skate. Forget about it, magazines are pretty wack, anyhow.

There has been extra hectic weather out here for the last few days. shit has been getting torn up everywhere. Super gnarly lightning storms and thunder coupled with high winds, have resulted in trailer homes all over the state moving to other parts of the state, whether they wanted to or not. we're off to see the wizard..
